Dr. Erika Schmitz is an Academic Surgical Oncologist and General Surgeon in the Department of Surgery with cross appointment in the Department of Oncology at Queen's University and Kingston Health Sciences Centre.
Dr. Schmitz completed her Doctorate in Medicine and General Surgery residency at the University of Ottawa before completing a Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of British Columbia.
She completed specialized elective rotations with the soft tissue sarcoma service at the National Cancer Institute in Milan, Italy, the pelvic exenteration service at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, melanoma at the Melanoma Institute of Australia in Sydney, and melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
She joined the Department as a locum in 2025 and is pleased to return in September 2026 in an academic surgical oncology position
