Dr. Erika Schmitz is an Academic Surgical Oncologist and General Surgeon in the Department of Surgery at Queen's University and Kingston Health Sciences Centre. She joined the Department as a locum in 2025 and returns in September 2026 in an academic surgical oncology position.
Dr. Schmitz completed her Doctorate in Medicine and General Surgery residency at the University of Ottawa before completing a Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of British Columbia. During her fellowship training, she undertook specialized elective rotations in pelvic exenteration and cytoreductive surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, melanoma at the Melanoma Institute of Australia, melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, and soft tissue sarcoma at the Instituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan.
She holds Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in General Surgery and General Surgical Oncology.
