Dr. Holly Mewhort is an Assistant Professor and Attending Surgeon. She completed her residency in Cardiac Surgery at the University of Calgary, during which time she obtained her PhD in Cardiovascular and Respiratory Sciences. Her PhD thesis focused on the surgical utilization of biomaterials and their impact on cardiac remodeling and functional recovery following ischemic injury. She then went on to complete her fellowship in Advanced Adult Cardiac Surgery (minimally invasive and robotics) at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine. Her interests include minimally invasive, robotic and complex heart valve surgery and translational research. Dr. Mewhort is also the recipient of the; American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Surgery and Anesthesia Vivien Thomas Young Investigator Award, Canadian Society of Cardiac Surgeons Dr. Paul Cartier Cardiac Surgery Resident Award and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta L.B. Mitchell Clinical Research Prize among many others.
