Sarah Klapman is originally from Toronto, where she grew up making music with her family. She headed out to Mount Allison University in New Brunswick to study classical singing and psychology, later combining the two fields with a master’s of neuroscience at Western University, where her research focused on music and memory. After realizing that her favourite part of research was interacting with patients, Sarah was thrilled to be accepted to medical school at McMaster’s campus in Kitchener-Waterloo. She fell in love with surgery because operating feels like being back in an opera production and clinic is full of fascinating new people to meet. Sarah is very grateful to be joining the Queen's General Surgery residency program because of the warm welcome she has received and the opportunity to be part of such a close-knit community. In her spare time, she loves to sing, and is excited for all the musical opportunities available in Kingston. Sarah is hoping to learn how to balance her twin loves of music and medicine while in residency - if it can be done anywhere, it's at Queen's!
