Alessandro Ricci was born in Ottawa, Ontario, to Italian and Lebanese parents. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a dual degree in Neuroscience and Psychology in 2018 and attended medical school at Queen’s University, graduating in 2022. Alessandro finds that General Surgery strikes a good balance between surgical skill and medical complexity. What he particularly appreciates about the Queen’s General Surgery program is that it cultivates meaningful leadership opportunities on and off the ward early on in training, its high operative volumes, and the tight-knit relationship you can cultivate with staff. His research interests lie in the overlap between Quality Improvement and Surgical Education.
Alessandro and his wife (a general surgery resident herself!) share a home in Kingston and enjoy cooking large Italian meals together at home. They can often be found making homemade pasta, pizza, and tomato sauce from scratch. On the weekends, Alessandro enjoys the many restaurants Kingston is known for, and his favorite dining spots include Heist, Casa Domenica, and Tango Nuevo. Alessandro stays level-headed through his residency by staying active and keeping up with new movies. His favourite films include The Departed, Dune (parts I and II), and Moonstruck.
