Dr Engel is currently the Head of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Associate Professor of Surgery and Oncology with the School of Medicine at Queen’s University and the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario.
He received his medical degree from The Royal College of Surgeons In Ireland and completed his General Surgery Residency at Western University. Dr Engel was awarded an R. Samuel McLaughlin Foundation Fellowship Award and an Ontario Ministry of Health Research Personnel Development Program Fellowship Award enabling him to complete his Surgical Oncology Fellowship at The John Wayne Cancer Centre, UCLA.
His clinical interests include breast cancer, soft tissue sarcomas and melanoma. Research involves the use of real-time spatial navigation to guide breast surgery and in vivo rapid evaporative mass spectrometry (REIMS) to analyse tissue.
