The Department of Surgery at Queen's University provides elective experiences for students in the clerkship phase from other accredited medical schools (LCME/CACMS) in Canada and the United States. Students must be in their final year of clerkship. Unfortunately, at this time we do not accept medical students from international medical schools.
Elective students in the Department of Surgery are put on-call on their designated service, and are welcome to attend the Surgical Seminar Series. A copy of this schedule can be obtained from Taylor Rosenblath, Program Coordinator. Call Schedules are emailed to elective students prior to their start date. This schedule enables the elective student to page his or her senior resident who will direct them as to the location and start time on their first day.
To apply for an elective in Surgery, interested applicants must contact the Electives Assistant, in the School of Medicine Undergraduate Office, 80 Barrie Street (ph. 613-533-2542). More detailed information is available on their website, including application instructions, the application form, and an immunization record form.
