Dr. Glykeria Martou has recently joined the Division of Plastic Surgery. Her main clinical interest is the reconstruction of oncologic ablative defects. Her reconstructive practice focuses on breast reconstruction, autologous and alloplastic, as well as oncologic and reconstructive treatment of melanoma. One of her main goals is to contribute to the establishment of a leading breast reconstruction program at Kingston General Hospital.
Dr. Martou received her Medical Degree from McMaster University and a Masters of Science Degree in Human Physiology from the University of Toronto. She is also a graduate of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program at the University of Toronto. She received her Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2010. Following her residency, Dr. Martou completed her fellowship training at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and was the first fellow to complete a Craniofacial and Microsurgical Reconstruction Fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Oleh Antonyshyn, Dr. Joan Lipa and Dr. Laura Snell in 2011.
She went on to become a Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) and joined the Sunnybrook Plastic Surgery Team in 2012 focusing her practice in breast reconstruction during the opening of the Louise Temerty Breast Centre.
Her research interests include the evaluation of quality of life and other outcome measures following breast reconstruction and how patient education can contribute to post-operative satisfaction. Her other research interest focuses on medical education and the development of teaching tools that can contribute in the evaluation of surgical skills during residency training.
